Colorado MBA Students Learn About Equipment Finance

March 20, 2017 – A group of about 50 full-time professionals in the Leeds School of Business Evening MBA Program at the University of Colorado at Boulder recently learned about the equipment finance industry and lease accounting changes in a guest lecture by Key Equipment Finance President Adam Warner and Chief Financial Officer Deb Brady.

Utilizing the Guest Lecture Program from the Equipment Leasing & Finance Foundation, Warner gave the students an overview of the equipment finance industry; the small, middle and large-market segments; who uses equipment finance; and the reasons businesses finance equipment. He also described Key Equipment Finance’s market profile and business channels.

Students learned about lease accounting changes from Brady, including core concepts that remain in place, changes from current guidance and a breakdown of benefits and considerations of the new rules.

“The students spent the previous week’s lecture focusing on the dilemma around capitalizing versus expensing leases,” said Josh Neil, instructor, accounting division, Leeds School of Business. “The students completed a case before class that drew out both drastic and subtle financial reporting impacts. We spent the class talking about the underlying accounting theory applicable to the situation as well. This primed the students for a great and interactive discussion with Adam and Deb.”

The Guest Lecture Program of the Equipment Leasing & Finance Foundation is designed to increase awareness of the equipment leasing and finance industry and to educate future decision makers.

“The students were very engaged, and the presentation did an excellent job of helping them understand the equipment finance industry,” Warner said. “At Key, we are committed to attracting new talent, and the Guest Lecture Program is a great way to raise awareness and encourage students to explore a career in our industry.”
