New Future Projects: Healthcare and Captive Studies

Posted 05/06/09

As the research committee works through its agenda, which will include both research studies and shorter “briefing papers” to tackle more immediate issues related to current events, several projects are already making their way from idea to research status. Two projects “in the works” include a study on the healthcare market and a study on the disparities among captive companies.

The healthcare study will focus on the rebuilding of the healthcare infrastructure, including what opportunities may exist for equipment finance companies. The upcoming government investment in healthcare technology infrastructure could present a myriad of financing prospects. However, understanding how industry members may benefit from the recently approved “American Recovery and Reinvestment Bill,” which includes attempts to upgrade the healthcare industry’s infrastructure through investment stimulus, is required. This study will seek to identify the scope of the opportunity, discuss credit issues, and offer a perspective on the role of financing.

The captive study will attempt to address why some captive finance firms are thriving and others are faltering in today’s challenging economy. The “why” behind the degree of disparity in the success of captive financing organizations will be isolated, including what actions a captive may take to ensure their viability and success.

Watch for more information about these studies and other research projects in future issues of Forecasts.
