2008: The Year of Research

Posted 02/14/08

The time has come where the Foundation can actively explore more research projects than ever before thanks to the increased generosity of donors in 2007. A banner fundraising year, the Foundation is exploring numerous research projects to add to the industry’s body of knowledge.

The Foundation expects to fund up to $500,000 in research this year. Such topics as new business models and trends, credit risks, and international markets are just a few of the research studies that the Foundation will fund in 2008.
Other topics included on the table for funding consideration include:
  • The Future of the Health Care Industry
  • Bundled services: The Competitive Differentiation
  • The Future of the Transportaion Leasing Industry - Where are the Opportunities?
  • Lessons learned from previous business cycles
  • New business models for equipment finance firms
  • Credit Risks & Credit Scoring - What are the new/alternative approaches to success?
  • Where did all my profits go?
  • Captives - How do captives need to react to changing economic realities? What are/could be their competitive advantages?
  • Technology Equipment Financing Series
  • Energy - Trends representing growth in industries for equipment demand
  • 2010...What will the industry look like after Basel II implementation?
Several asset classes are also being considered for studies including a series on transportation, healthcare, and technology.
Also, several past Foundation studies were so successful, Foundation leaders are considering updates or further exploration, including:
  • The Perfect Storm II: What can be learned from the Sub prime Blues and applied to the equipment finance market?
  • 2008 and Beyond: The Economy’s Impact of Equipment Financing
  • Propensity and Market Size Study – the next steps

The Foundation Research Committee is always seeking ideas. Forward all ideas for research projects to Lisa Levine at llevine@elfaonline.org.
