Donors’ Spotlight – Mindy Berman, 42 North Structured Finance, Inc.

Posted 07/18/06

Mindy Berman, a senior managing director for 42 North Structured Finance, Inc., is very clear about why she has been donating to the Foundation for the last few years: “it’s good for our jobs.” She says anyone who has worked in the equipment leasing industry for a number of years “owes it to themselves and the industry." “If your career is in this industry, then anything you can do to make the industry more professional, and which creates more support and attention for this industry, is going to benefit you as an individual,” she says. Since leasing has been under attack recently, from regulators to media, Mindy believes there is good reason for the industry to highlight the positives. She says, “we need to show why leasing is a good source of capital formation in this country.” The Foundation strives to be the industry’s “eye on the future” by conducting future-focused research and studies and publishing articles of interest. Since its formation, The Foundation has commissioned and endowed more than $1.2 million in research projects. The Foundation’s products not only help industry members, but also are used to accurately depict leasing’s contributions to the overall economy and business community. From the State of the Industry report to the Journal of Equipment Lease Financing, the Foundation products are used in meetings to Capitol Hill, with media outlets, and provided to regulators and other stakeholders. Mindy sums up, “If you like your job and you would like this industry to continue, you owe it to yourself to give to the Foundation so it may continue to do what it does best – promoting the industry, increasing its knowledge base, and enhancing its professionalism.” Mindy is a newly appointed member of the Equipment Leasing Association Board and has been an active member of the ELA financial accounting committee since 1997. The Foundation accepts donations of all levels, and Mindy adds, “every little bit helps. Leaders should be acting as role models for their organizations by giving and then supporting employees to give to the Foundation.”
