Diversity and Success: New Study Shows Link

Posted 06/02/06

Diversity is a central issue for corporate American today. Having a workforce that is diverse in age, race and origin, and general background is thought to ensure an organization remains vibrant and innovative. The leasing industry, in particular, has had a particular focus on one aspect of diversity: Ensuring an appropriate mix of ages reflected on employee rosters. Attracting younger workers to leasing companies becomes more important than ever as industry leaders begin to retire. However, regardless of how diversity is defined in the workplace, either by age, race or other characteristic, organizations often struggle to capitalize and measure its benefits. A new Foundation study, Why Diversity Ensures Success in The Leasing and Finance Industry, will address the current state of diversity and what companies, specifically in the equipment leasing industry are doing to attract, retain and effectively capitalize on diverse employee groups.

The researcher, Jenny M. Hoobler, Ph.D., University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Business Administration, will investigate what diversity leaders in U.S. corporations, and specifically in the equipment leasing industry, are doing around diversity from recruitment and retention to measuring its impact on profitability. The paper also will take a look at how minority employees in these benchmark firms feel about their working environment, the external ramifications of diversity as far as effects on customers and business opportunities, and ways of measuring diversity-related return on investment.

The study will be available this summer and can be purchased by non- donors by visiting the Foundation store at http://www.leasefoundation.org/store/ for $75.00. Foundation donors, as always, receive all studies at no additional charge and automatically.
