Jeffrey J. Wong Memorial Fund
Established by The Equipment Leasing and Finance Foundation
As many in the industry already know, Jeffrey J. Wong, Esq., law partner at Cooper White & Cooper in San Francisco, CA, died suddenly on Friday, November 16, 2001. At that time, ELA President Michael Fleming noted "Not only have we lost a wonderful personal friend, but a leader in the leasing legal community,".
Jeff was an unusually active member of the equipment leasing community, always ready to volunteer and share his expertise and energy. He served on a variety of the ELA Committees, including the ELA Board of Directors, the Legal Committee, the Service Providers Business Council Steering Committee, and the Equipment Leasing and Finance Foundation Board of Trustees. He wrote and spoke extensively about legal matters in the industry.
Jeff was active in other leasing associations and a participant in many committees of the American Bar Association involving commercial finance, equipment leasing and the Uniform Commercial Code. He was a general editor of the treatise on Equipment Leasing and co-editor in chief of the Commercial Finance Guide and Commercial Loan Document Guide, all published by Matthew Benders. At the time of his death, Jeff was Chair of his law firm's Business Department and a member of the firm's Management Committee.
For those who were fortunate to know Jeff personally, he shared with them his great love for golf and his ample talent as an entertainer and comedian. By the measure of years, Jeff's life was certainly too short. But the time he spent with us in the industry he filled with energy, wisdom, good humor, and personal optimism that we shall never forget.
It is fitting therefore that the Board of Trustees of the Foundation has resolved to establish a special Fund, to be called The Jeffrey J. Wong Memorial Fund. The Fund, which is in formation, will provide grants for projects selected by the Board of Trustees of the Foundation and a special Committee of the Board charged with administering the Fund. The Trustees feel that this is an opportunity to provide a lasting remembrance of Jeff's work for the industry and its members.
